SUP-MF Thermal Gas Mass Flow Meter
The SUP-MF is an insertion thermal dispersion flow meter that measures gas mass flow directly in pipes and ducts from DN65 to DN1000. It reads 0.1–100 Nm/s with ±2.5% accuracy, needs no temperature or pressure compensation, and outputs 4–20 mA and RS485 Modbus RTU. It is designed for gases only, not liquids or steam.
What it does
Thermal dispersion meters hold a heated sensor at a fixed temperature above a reference sensor. Flowing gas carries heat away, and the power needed to hold the temperature difference is a direct function of gas mass flow.
Because one insertion probe can be hot-tapped into a large header, the SUP-MF is a low-cost way to sub-meter compressed air, find leaks and allocate gas consumption by line.

Frequently asked questions
Is a thermal mass flow meter suitable for liquids?
No. Thermal dispersion meters are calibrated for gases. Read the full answer in our Q&A article.
Does the SUP-MF need temperature and pressure compensation?
No. It measures mass flow directly, reported in normal or standard units.
Related questions
- Is a thermal mass flow meter suitable for liquids?Flow
No. Standard industrial thermal dispersion mass flow meters, such as the Supmea SUP-MF, are designed and calibrated for clean, dry gases. Liquids remove heat roughly a…
- Can a vortex flow meter measure steam accurately?Flow
Yes. Vortex flow meters are one of the most common technologies for saturated and superheated steam because they have no moving parts and tolerate high temperature. A…
